Connect culture with community
The Outreach Associate (Volunteer) will support the organization's efforts to build relationships with community members, organizations, businesses, schools, volunteers, and other stakeholders. The volunteer will help expand awareness of the organization's mission and programs and encourage community participation and engagement.
This role is ideal for individuals who enjoy communication, relationship-building, community engagement, and working as part of a mission-driven team.
A home for the Indian diaspora
Kala Utsav Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Kala Utsav is a community initiative: a world-class home for the Indian diaspora where arts, music, language and living tradition are woven into everyday life.
We work to create meaningful impact through community engagement, education, partnerships, and service.
Key responsibilities
Build relationships
- Support outreach efforts to community members, organizations, schools, businesses, and community groups.
- Identify and research potential community partners and outreach opportunities.
- Assist with contacting prospective partners, volunteers, supporters, and community organizations.
- Follow up with community contacts and help maintain positive relationships.
Promote and represent
- Help promote the organization's programs, events, services, and volunteer opportunities.
- Participate in community events, meetings, information sessions, and outreach activities.
- Represent the organization professionally and respectfully when interacting with the public.
Materials and records
- Assist with preparing outreach emails, phone scripts, flyers, presentations, and other communication materials.
- Maintain accurate records of outreach activities, contacts, and follow-ups.
Campaigns and teamwork
- Support outreach campaigns and special initiatives organized by the department.
- Collaborate with other departments and volunteers to support organizational goals.
- Perform other outreach-related duties as assigned.

- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Professional, friendly, and respectful approach to community engagement.
- Ability to communicate effectively through email, phone, and/or in person.
- Reliable, organized, and able to follow through on assigned tasks.
- Comfortable working independently and as part of a team.
- Interest in community service and nonprofit work, or the organization's mission.
- Previous outreach, community engagement, sales, marketing, public relations, or nonprofit experience is helpful but not required.
Preferred skills
- Community networking and relationship-building.
- Social media or digital communication.
- Public speaking or event support.
- Research and information gathering.
- Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, or similar tools.
- Experience working with community organizations, schools, businesses, or nonprofits.
